Supporting English-Speaking Exchange Students
Abigail Brachtl, Tim Connors, Nicholas Markou, Sophia Silkaitis
The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is a global provider of study-abroad experiences for college students. Their Prague center serves many English-speaking students wanting to experience Prague and Czech life. The goal of this project was to assist CIEE in helping English-speaking exchange students in the Czech Republic. Such students often experience social, cultural, and communication barriers that contribute to negative feelings, such as social isolation. The team collected data through surveys and interviews to identify common challenging scenarios students face. Using this information, we created a repository of information which is hosted online. At the conclusion of the project, the team presented a list of recommendations as well as a mobile-friendly and maintainable website (www.cieeprague.com) for CIEE to use and update for future English-speaking exchange students visiting Prague. Our final report can be found here.
