Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is a private research university in Worcester, Massachusetts. Founded in 1865 by John Boynton and Ichabod Washburn, WPI was one of the first engineering and technology universities in the United States. WPI offers students undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degrees. WPI’s curriculum is built on the WPI Plan, with emphasis on Project-based learning and global experiences. Our school’s motto is “Lehr und Kunst” which roughly translated means “theory and practice”, emphasizing the importance for students to learn practical skills in addition to gaining academic knowledge. WPI is also home to our unique Global Projects Program allowing students to apply what they have learned in the classroom to the real world through community service projects such as the IQP (Interactive Qualifying Project) and technical projects such as the MQP (Major Qualifying Project). WPI is one of the top schools in the United States. It is ranked as one of the best universities in the nation by the U.S. News and World Report and has one of the best return on investments of U.S. universities. The Massachusetts Academy of Math & Science at WPI was recently ranked the #3 public high school in the U.S.
